Canadian-made Light Armoured Vehicle burns in Yemen (2019)
Over the past decade, Canada has been exporting billions of dollars worth of military equipment to countries that have been at war with Yemen. During this time period (2012 to 2023), Saudi Arabia in particular has consistently been the largest non-US export destination for such Canadian equipment.
On the night of January 11, 2024, US and UK forces carried out airstrikes on 60 targets in Yemen, with the blessing of the Canadian government. The US and UK have followed up with more airstrikes since.
The Canadian government had previously said it would commit “a handful of personnel to the international task force” led by the United States and titled “Operation Prosperity Guardian”.
An operation which, despite whatever Canada claims, is intended to deter a Yemeni naval blockade of Israel-related ships and forcibly ensure the quick supply of goods to the State of Israel, in support of that state’s mass destruction of Gaza, escalation of settler/military violence in the West Bank and its attempt to eliminate the Palestinian people as a people.
